Carnival #71

Blood, Sweat and Tears might be the name of a band, or a description of how I felt during my kids' swim meet this evening, but in the Ohio political blogosphere, it's what's being produced by the following posts, on a variety of issues.

Ben of The Keeler Political Report sweats it out for many Ohioans in his analysis of missing state data, regardless of whether the cover up was bad, or the state leadership doesn't know what is going on.

Ohio's legislators predictably completed work on SB117 (Telecom/video franchising bill) and Bill Callahan deconstructs its inevitability for us on Callahan's Cleveland Diary. The inevitability of the Cuyahoga County Commissioners' passion for taxin' sounds far shakier when you read Bill's review of a proposed increase in the county sales tax, for the purpose of building a new convention center and medical mart in Cleveland.

Scott re-visits a Sherrod Brown vote at Pho's Akron Pages which had caused much tsuris to Democrats who wanted to support Brown but failed to appreciate this particular vote.

Bloggers? Passionate? Nooooo. Though that's exactly what David of Nasty, Brutish and Short is looking for in Rob Portman. Then, David suggests that city services be practical and fix things before anyone gets injured. David - what's in your water? (That's a joke, a joke.) Finally, a very serious questioning of the legal system's approach to deaths caused by cars gets the once, twice and three times over by David. Not an easy topic.

Bizzy Blog buzzes as bizzy as ever with a trio of entries. First up, Tom expresses concern that an OH-18 GOP candidate currently lives in Beavercreek, Ohio, which happens to be, well, far away from OH-18. Then, he helps readers determine just how broad our concern should be regarding the state data theft situation with sources and numbers related to which Ohioans appear to have been affected by the incident. Finally, Tom lets others' words speak for themselves and connect the dots related to Ted Strickland's presentation to CAIR and the media's lack of coverage of the meeting.

Right Angle Blog from Right Angle Blog perceives some deja vu all over again regarding Governor Ted Strickland's comments in support of SB117.

Viking Spirit is switching his support from one GOP prez candidate to another. Read about it here to find out who gets the Spirit now.

This reportorial with video, by Lisa Renee, on the Veterans Glass City Skyway, will educate you well about the structure and its relevance to the city of Toledo, home of the Glass City Jungle blog. And for something completely different, do you think much about coyotes? Maybe you should, suggests Lisa Renee, who does some of that thinking for us.

Mark notes Governor Strickland's rebuke of Ohio's Protection of Marriage Amendment on the Conservative Culture blog. Also noteworthy for Mark is the positive coverage of conservative Congressman Jim Jordan and his new surroundings in D.C. Last, as Mark says, "for something totally different...I can see this happening in Ohio." Giving away the "this" wouldn't be as bad as giving away the next Harry Potter book's ending, but still...it involves teenage girls and religion.

The OH-18 District just gets no rest, as Matt Dole of Lincoln Logs introduces readers to yet another candidate for that seat. Fancy yourself a slogan-slayer? Check out this compilation produced by Matt and focused on Attorney General Marc Dann. Finally, Matt offers what he calls "a slightly critical look at Joe Hallet's latest column with an explanation of why Kevin DeWine doesn't have to be "high" to be optimistic."

Yours truly of Writes Like She Talks really, really, really wants people to pay attention to this wireless 911 issue.

Sincere appreciation to all those who submitted carnival entries, including three first-timers since the new management began:

Callahan's Cleveland Diary
Right Angle Blog
Viking Spirit.

May next week bring an even further expansion of the list of contributors, which you can see on the sidebar to the right.

Jill, fantastic job just as I expected.

Great posts by everyone this week, it confirms what I know to be very true about the Ohio Blogosphere.

It rocks!

Thanks for all your help, you. ;) It's fun but it is work. And not knowing some of the folks personally? I redacted some of my original quips because I just wasn't sure how they'd play. Figured I better play it straight for now.

Great job on the carnival. Love reading the articles from all the different blogs.

One suggestion. How about creating a clickable link/logo for our sidebars?

Hi Bryan -

Thanks! Re: the logo/link - it's an idea we've thrown around before. Maybe your interest will be enough to get us to do it!

Thanks - Jill
