We had a few really hot humid days this past week and while the weather has started to cool just a bit in some parts of Ohio, there is still some hot action on keyboards in Ohio. With that let's begin the Carnival of Ohio Politics number seventy-eight.
Roland Hansen from NWO starts us off this week, he shares his first carnival entry from one of his blogs, Roland Hansen Commentary on the topic of Change Lucas County, Ohio Government!. This thought provoking post includes some history, and some facts.
Over at Writes Like She Talks, Jill Miller Zimon, appears to be very tired of the myth that Pepper Pike is Republican bastion and she has the numbers to prove she's right. Jill then turns her focus on Why the MSM continues to lose credibility and then, still focusing on the MSM, she pens something from the "blogs can do anything the MSM can do but better" category with post.
Dave from Into My Own first gives us Jane Mayer's "The Black Sites": An Exchange which includes a response by Dave and one by Linda Sexauer. Next on this Friday, don't forget about Dave's FISA Friday quest, someone is watching...
King's Right Site starts with an interesting post on the Med Mart Saga, pointing out that quite a few Republicans are not happy with the 20 year tax hike. In a similar vein, King has a problem with the concept of protecting trash cans but ignoring the right to free speech and the freedom to circulate a petition. Looking at the possible presidential match up on the Democratic side, King shares a post entitled, Barack Osama; The New John Kerry that focuses on Barack Obama and some statements made by him that King takes issue with.
Ben Keeler of the Keeler Political Report (or should I say BK of the KPR), focuses on a story of which the topic of police chases has been discussed in other parts of Ohio. In the story Ben writes about a woman who was killed as a result of stolen car with four kids in it and a police chase where some think race is a factor in the public outcry, Ben is not one of them.
Daniel Williamson shares three noteworthy posts from Word of Mouth. From Scott Bakalar, Breaking the Cycle, from Kelly Boyer Sagert Let's WoM It Up! and Henery Hawk provides What the . . .?. It sounds like Word of Mouth got quite a bit of media attention this week including Metro Cleveland TV coverage and Daniel promises these three articles will catch up anyone who missed what the focus was about.
Weapons of Mass Discussion's Matt Hurley takes on the topic of immigration with two posts, first on the subject of Ohio Dems and Illegal Immigration and Matt feels the CityBeat Misses the Beat on Combs' Illegal Immigration Bill. Then Matt wonders if now is really a good time for Jon Husted Take on Medical Pot Usage as an issue.
Rosemary Palmer and her congressional run against Dennis Kucinich is the topic of a post shared by Kyle from the Chief Source. He participated in a conference call and reveals some of the information he learned as a result.
Is the Virtuous Republic still virtuous? Bryan suggests that perhaps this post might not meet the definition of virtuous to some. He does make some valid points on the issue but to protect his virtue, you'll have to head over to see what it's about.
You will be asked to raise your taxes for an unconstitutional school funding system according to the Dean of Cincinnati in this post shared from The Cincinnati Beacon. The Dean also asks an important question, "Shouldn’t we be talking about the unconstitutionality of Ohio’s funding formula before mounting a political campaign to raise taxes?"
Another fellow NWO resident, Maggie Thurber of Thurber's Thoughts starts with a post that mentions quite a few other NWO bloggers as we have discussed the City's decision to close a park because of a rally with Maggie's focus being on prior restraint. What do you think about the suggestion that Rep. Dingell made on eliminating a home mortgage deduction for people with homes over 3000 square feet? Maggie would like your thoughts on that and then, Maggie shares what she thinks about the $8 million dollar price tag for renovations to the Congressional gym.
At Republican by Design Mark Vernik faces the hard decision of which stories to share this week, wondering which one would be his top story, would it be one asking what political party father-in-law who called 911 on Stephanie Studebaker belongs to? Or would it be his post on supporting illegal immigration? Or perhaps his post looking for information on do the higher ups support the protection of border agent's lives? When you visit, you can decide.
From the Home of the Militant Pragmatist, Pho's Akron Pages we first have Pho's thoughts on what he feels turned out to be a nondebate between Harold Ford, Jr. and Markos Moulitsos. Then he focuses on the ODP and the unhiring of Megan Pappada and why he will not go quietly into that good night on the story.
Gordon Gekko, of the Taxmanblog puts his thoughts to page on the recent Middletown School levy raising some questions as to how a levy can fail then be back up to vote again just a few short months later. Gordon also makes some suggestions as to what he feels public schools should consider before asking for additional tax payer dollars.
Last but not least, from my very own Glass City Jungle I can't help feeling that the classification of hospitals in different geographical locations than they really exist is something not quite right. The Toledo area also had a recent high speed police chase that ended with a death and after another recent high speed chase where Toledo Police stopped at the County line but a Michigan State Trooper continued the chase well into Ohio, the Toledo Police Department has changed their policy. Many of us have had quite a bit of enjoyment watching the 16 minute chase video that is included as a link, which happily in that incident no one was hurt or killed.
On behalf of Jill, Ben, Pho and myself, I want to thank everyone for participating in this week's Carnival. It was another fantastic selection of posts that makes me proud to be an Ohio Blogger.
